Peer Leader Training
The Learning Centers offers training and professional development workshops for peer leaders working at our centers and with partnering Rutgers offices and programs. Workshop topics include (but not limited to) developing study skills and motivation in students, managing stress as a peer leader and student, reflecting on peer instructional skills, incorporating inclusive teaching practices, and many more.

Peer Leaders Working for the Learning Centers
All peer leaders working for the Learning Centers participate in required peer leader training. When hired for the semester, peer leaders are added to the Peer Leader Training Canvas site for the current academic year to access training modules and resources. For access, please contact the Training and Professional Development Specialist. The required training consists of the following for new and returning peer leaders:
New Peer Leaders (first time working for the Learning Centers)

Complete Peer Leader Orientation (occurs when hired for the semester)

New Peer Leader Orientation Asynchronous Module on Canvas

Attendance and participation in a series of 4 synchronous in-person or online modules (A, B, C, & D)

Complete one professional development workshop during your first semester as a peer leader*
*After your first semester, you would then complete two workshops per semester of employment.
Returning Peer Leaders

Complete Peer Leader Orientation (occurs when hired for the semester)

Returning Peer Leader Orientation Asynchronous Module on Canvas

Attendance and participation in 2 synchronous in-person or online modules (C & D)

Complete two professional development workshops per semester of employment

One of these workshops must be synchronous or in-person.

Register for professional development workshops through the Peer Leader Training Calendar. Only workshops labeled with "Peer Leaders Only" count towards the professional development requirement.
Pedagogy of Peer-Led Learning (01:090:322)
The Learning Centers offers a 3-credit, 300-level pedagogy course available to all students in peer leader positions at Rutgers and those interested in peer education. Please learn more at Pedagogy of Peer-Led Learning.
