Peer Leader Training, Day 1 (New & Returning Peer Leaders)

Event Location:
Livingston Learning Center (Tillett Hall, Room 111, Livingston Campus)

The Learning Centers provide training sessions throughout the semester for any academic peer leader at Rutgers (tutors, study group leaders, peer instructors, learning assistants, etc.). LC peer leaders are required to participate in at least two semester workshops, in addition to initial Peer Leader Trainings. If you work as an academic peer leader for another program at RU, you are also welcome to participate in our trainings.

During this training, peer leaders will…
•    Cover the fundamentals of teaching and learning, as well as application of communication skills and professional conduct, presented in the form of various interactive, collaborative activities.
•    Review the essentials of session planning, preparation and assessment when working with students.
•    Learn how to design effective activities that encourage learning and will learn how to manage groups effectively.
•    Learn about the functions of memory & metacognition in student learning, and how to activate use of them for their students in addition to their own personal use.
