Peer Leader Training -Crucial Conversations (Conflict Management)

Event Location:
Kreeger Learning Center 117 (CA)

The Learning Centers provide training sessions throughout the semester for any academic peer leader at Rutgers (tutors, study group leaders, peer instructors, learning assistants, etc.). LC tutors, study group leaders, and learning assistants are required to participate in at least two of these sessions, in addition to the initial New Peer Leader Training. If you work as an academic peer leader for another program at RU, you are also welcome to participate in our trainings. Each training session will address a specific topic and will involve activities and group discussion.

This workshop and its subtitle are based on the book, Crucial Conversations.  In this session, you’ll learn what constitutes a crucial conversation and how to gain increased self-awareness by exploring of your “Style Under Stress.”  As you become more conscious of your typical habits, you’ll learn how to self-monitor these behaviors, knowing what to watch for and what to avoid when entering into a touchy conversation.  You’ll also learn the ways in which perceptions create stories and how both of them influence emotions and guide your actions—for better or worse—and how, once mastered, will help you to face and handle your crucial conversations well.

To register for this training session, visit our workshop registration page.
