Testimonials from Our Collaborators

"I first heard about the concept of learning assistants in connection with the chemical engineering program at the University of Colorado-Boulder and was delighted to learn that we have a similar program here at Rutgers. I contacted the LA Program Director, who was extremely helpful in recruiting and placing LAs in my Fall 2013 course, Chemical Engineering Analysis I. Throughout the  semester, three of my top students from the previous year were in the classroom with me one day per week, facilitating small-group, problem-solving, clicker exercises. It transformed the class. The students were awake (even at 8:40 a.m.!), engaged, asked questions, and on the whole did considerably better on exams. Many cited the LAs and group clicker exercises as their favorite part of the course. It was the most fun I've ever had teaching a class. We plan to have LAs in more chemical engineering courses next year."
