About the LA Program

This innovative program engages undergraduates in classroom teaching and learning while helping them develop their teaching, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Learning assistants facilitate learning in several ways, including:

  • facilitating discussions and workshops during lectures
  • team teaching recitation sections with a graduate TA
  • leading supplemental study groups.

Learning assistants must co-enroll in a 3-credit, 300-level pedagogy course during their first semester in the program.

Sample Topics

• The use of technology in STEM education
• Diversity and representation in STEM
• Learning in chemistry laboratory courses
• Interdisciplinary courses
• Collaborative learning
• The role of motivation and emotion in education
• Bridging the gap between education and industry in engineering
