Registration Open for Boot Camp
Join us on May 17th for a day focused on active learning. From 9am to 3pm on Livingston Campus there will be talks, presentations, panels, demonstrations, and workshops tailor made for Rutgers faculty and staff who are using or interested in using active learning techniques. Whether you are a veteran of active learning or new to this exciting approach to teaching, the Boot Camp offers something for everyone. The centerpiece of the day will be a keynote talk from Robert J. Beichner, pioneer of the SCALE-UP project, an approach to active learning that has sparked changes in teaching around the world. Dr. Beichner will be joining us from North Carolina State University, where he is the Director of the University's STEM Education Initiative.
The Boot Camp will also feature a course design workshop that will address how the use of active learning affects critical components of a class such as the syllabus, assignments, and assessments. Guests can attend a faculty panel to learn about how Rutgers instructors have used active learning both in the classroom and online and what challenges they faced along the way. Over breakfast and lunch, connect with other faculty who are interested in active learning. Visit information tables from Digital Classroom Services, the Office of Instructional & Research Technology, the Learning Centers, Scheduling & Space Management, and more to learn about how these departments can help support your active learning endeavors. Learn about Rutgers-New Brunswick's new active learning spaces and attend info sessions on tools that you can use for your classes, such as Learning Assistants and technology that can be used to "flip" your class or encourage student collaboration.
The Active Learning Boot Camp is a continuation of the Active Learning Community, driven by Digital Classroom Services, Rutgers Learning Centers, and Scheduling & Space Management. The event is free and open to all members of the Rutgers community. If you would like to attend, please RSVP by May 10th. Check back soon for more details as the agenda is finalized. If you cannot attend, but would like to receive updates about future events, consider signing up to be a member of the community.
